DPM Marković meets Assistant Administrator of USAID for Europe & Eurasia Thomas Melia

Podgorica, Montenegro (18 May 2016) – Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković met with the Assistant Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for Europe and Eurasia Thomas Melia with whom he discussed the support this institution provided to Montenegro for 12 years, and thanks to which numerous reforms in Montenegrin society are successfully implemented.

DPM Marković thanked for the support in various areas, particularly emphasising the importance of the rule of law which is the most important challenge and the key to the success of the state and society as a whole. He recalled that during the period from 2001 to 2013 Montenegro received 281 million dollars in aid from the US Government, of which 243.3 million provided USAID.

The officials discussed the possibilities of further strengthening cooperation in many areas, in the context of regional projects implemented by USAID in neighboring countries.
