PM Đukanović meets UK Foreign Secretary
Brussels, Belgium (19 May 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met today, during the Ministerial Meeting of NATO, with UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond.
Foreign Secretary Hammond congratulated Montenegro on marking the tenth anniversary of the restoration of independence and today's signing of the Accession Protocol towards the full membership of Montenegro in NATO. At the same time, Mr Hammond highly rated Montenegro's commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, which are of particular importance for the Western Balkans, and encouraged the Government of Montenegro to continue reforms in the rule of law and economic development with the same intensity.
The Foreign Secretary expressed his belief that the accession of Montenegro to NATO will be a positive incentive for the entire Western Balkans region and said that the United Kingdom will continue to support Montenegro on its path to membership in NATO and the EU.
The Prime Minister, expressing gratitude to the Government of the United Kingdom for the support to Montenegro and the region, stressed that Montenegro is strongly committed to the implementation and promotion of the system of European and Euro-Atlantic values, which will contribute to the progress of the country and the region as a whole.
