PM Đukanović meets EU Commissioner Hahn
Brussels, Belgium (19 May 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met today with EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn. Commissioner Hahn congratulated Prime Minister Đukanović on today's signing of the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO.
"This is a big moment and the success for Montenegro, and from the aspect of the European Union a significant contribution to stability in the region," said Commissioner Hahn, welcoming this development, which will have a positive
impact on the further progress of the region as a whole.
The Prime Minister thanked for his message of congratulations and particularly for the support of the European Commission and for understanding the importance of the NATO issue for the future of the Balkans. PM Đukanović pointed out that the Government of Montenegro is committed to continue to be a good example in the region and a reliable European and Euro-Atlantic partner. In this regard, he stressed that the focus of activities will be further strengthening the rule of law and macro financial development. Prime Minister Đukanović, speaking of the accession negotiations, thanked the European Commission for their cooperation and reiterated the full commitment to achieving results.
The two officials also discussed the current political situation in Montenegro and the further dynamics of the accession negotiations.
