PM Đukanović hosts Slovak Minister Lajčak: Exemplary bilateral relations

Podgorica, Montenegro (20 May 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met today with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčak. Minister Lajcak, beside message of congratulations on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro's independence, expressed great satisfaction with yesterday's signing of the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO, with the assessment that Montenegro made a major step in achieving its strategic - European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, which is a result of serious commitment of the Government of Montenegro to the reforms and democratisation of society and the state.

"Yesterday's signing of the Accession Protocol is is in that sense an important acknowledgment and recognition of what is done," said Minister Lajčak, adding that Slovak Republic would continue to support Montenegro on its path towards full membership in NATO and in the accession negotiations with the EU, in particular on the eve of Slovak presidency of the European Council in the second half of this year.

The Prime Minister thanked the Government of Slovakia for the total support to Montenegro in various stages of development, pointing out that relations between the two countries are comprehensive and friendly and that can serve as an example. He also paid tribute to Minister Lajčak for his personal contribution and constructive role in the process of renewal of Montenegrin statehood.

The two officials discussed the internal political situation in Montenegro and exchanged views on developments in the region.
