Đukanović - Yee: USA will continue to support the reform processes in Montenegro

Služba za odnose s javnošćuPodgorica, Montenegro (21 May 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted today US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee. Mr Hoyt Brian Yee congratulated Prime Minister Đukanović tenth anniversary of independence, signing of the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO and the election of the government of electoral confidence.

"Over the past two decades Montenegro has come a long way, perhaps it could easily be forgotten, but it is huge achievement," said Hoyt Yee, recognising PM's individual merit and contribution to such development of Montenegro.

He pointed out that there has been made considerable progress in the rule of law, both in terms of results and in relation to the operation of the institutions.

"We appreciate the Government's efforts in this area, which confirms that it takes seriously obligations towards NATO and EU," Hoyt Yee rated and said that the US will continue to support Montenegro in the reform process, especially in the areas of the rule of law and media.

It will, according to Yee, additionally have an impact on the affirmation of Montenegro's enormous potential and attract foreign investors, in particular US investors.

The Prime Minister thanked for the congratulations and particularly, in the context of the Jubilee's celebration, for the help and support of the United States in maintaining stability and development of democracy in Montenegro, with the belief that they share a common satisfaction with the results achieved after the restoration of the independence. PM Đukanović stressed that Montenegro is responsible and reliable partner of the United States and it is willing to continue to be a promoter of a common system of values, economic and democratic development.

The two officials also talked about other important issues for the further democratic progress of Montenegro, the efforts and strong commitment of the Government to continue strengthening the overall democratic environment in the country.
