The company Airports of Montenegro has launched a celebration to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the opening of a new terminal building at Podgorica Airport. During this period there was an increase in passenger traffic of over one million. Through the establishment of new partnerships with leading airline companies, Montenegro is now connected with over 40 European destinations. At a press conference held on the occasion of celebration of the 10th company’s jubilee, Executive Director Mr. Milovan Đuričković stressed that the aforementioned results are reflected in the appropriate business and commercial management executed through competitive pricing and incentive provision.
Mr. Đuričković recalled how airports in Podgorica and Tivat were in a very poor state, neglected and without proper development vision, when overtaken in 2003.
"Since taking over the airport, the company has been operating successfully in continuity, which, among other things, included regularly repaid liabilities towards employees, government, suppliers and creditors," said Mr. Đuričković.
Mr. Ivan Brajović, Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, stated that the company Airports of Montenegro continuously records positive business results. "A new terminal building has been built at the Podgorica Airport and the existing one at the Tivat Airport has been expanded. One of the most successful companies took its destiny in its own hands, thus showing that despite the fact that it is 100 percent owned by the Government of Montenegro, it can operate successfully”, said Brajović.
Ever since the airports of Montenegro have been taken over from their former owner Jat Airways, the assed of the company has been increased 4 times and the positive business results have been achieved in terms of number of passengers. At the beginning of operations, annual passenger flow amounted to 600 000. Now it’s over a million. In 2003, the company launched 2 scheduled and 10 charter routes. Now, there are 10 scheduled and more than 40 charter routes. Since the taking over of airports, more than 14,8 million of passengers have been served.
This traffic growth trend continued in 2016. In the first four months, there has been a recorded traffic growth of 5.7 percent, of which 7 percent at Podgorica Airport and 3.1 percent at Tivat Airport. In the upcoming season, an increase in traffic of over 15 percent is expected at Tivat Airport.
