Prime Minister Đukanovć meets in Buenos Aires with Argentine President Mauricio Macri
Buenos Aires, Argentina (6 June 2016) -- On the second day of his visit to Buenos Aires, Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Đukanovć met at Casa Rosada with the Argentine President Mauricio Macri.
President Macri stated that he appreciates the possibility of deepening ties between the two states, emphasising that in his country there are migrants from around the world, and that the Montenegrin diaspora in Argentina is the second largest in the world.
"All this may be a nice starting point for cooperation, as we are looking for opportunities to develop our country," he said. In particular, he referred to the agricultural industry as the most realistic opportunity to develop cooperation with Montenegro.
Prime Minister Đukanović pointed out that friendship between the two countries has been highly respected, adding that numerous and successful Montenegrin community lives in Argentina, which forms the real basis for good cooperation and mutual understanding.
"The recently established Association of the Montenegrin communities in Latin America can give additional impetus to developing bilateral relations with Argentina and other countries of the region. The fact that we have opened the embassy and that we have three honorary consulates testify to the seriousness of our relationship when it comes to cooperation between our countries,” said the Prime Minister of Montenegro. He welcomed the intention of the Argentine Parliament to set up a Group of Friendship with Montenegro, stressing that he believes that we will know how to use all the mechanisms to boost ties of mutual interest, referring in particular to the agreement on economic cooperation and the strengthening of the contractual basis.
The Prime Minister also supported President Macri's inititiative to identify concrete opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, stating that Montenegro can be a destination for the placement of the Argentine products on European and neighbouring markets.
