Minister Pejanović Đurišić meets with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman

New York, United States of America (8 May 2016) – Minister of Defence Milica Pejanović Đurišić met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, who is going to be the personal representative of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw.

The two officials exchanged views on Montenegro's results in Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as on the political situation in the Western Balkans region. Minister Pejanović Đurišić informed Mr Feltman about the reforms that have been implemented both in the defense sector, and at the level of the entire society. On this occasion, she pointed out the importance of Euro-Atlantic and European integration that are strong and substantial support to all reform efforts, not only in Montenegro, but also in the entire region.

Feltman congratulated on the occasion of Montenegro's tenth independence anniversary and emphasised the role that Montenegro had at the international level during this period. He welcomed Montenegro's policy, with special emphasis on the policy of affirmation of cooperation and further development of the Western Balkans. Feltman also expressed support to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro, stressing that these are complementary processes, and that the implementation of the integration agenda in the best way valorises the fundamental values of the United Nations. Based on the positive experience that the UN agencies recorded in cooperation with Montenegrin institutions, Feltman announced further support to future development projects.

During her visit to the United States, Minister Pejanović Đurišić will participate in the conference "The future of NATO enlargement and the new frontiers of European security". The Minister will also have meetings in the White House, the Senate, the Pentagon and the State Department, as well as with representatives of the influential think tank organisations.
