DPM Lazović participates in business luncheon sponsored by American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro

"Modern technology is an engine for development in today's highly globalised society and Montenegro cannot and must not be an exception," said DPM Lazović.

He recalled that in the previous period Montenegro has made notable progress in developing information society. In that respect, Montenegro has achieved excellent results in the short term, which were also acknowledged by relevant international institutions.

''We focus our efforts on building IT infrastructure, implementation of projects in the field of e - government, information society promotion and the adoption of legislation in this field. Furthermore, we pay special attention to creating favourable business environment for the telecommunications sector development,'' Deputy Prime Minister Lazović explained.

The ambition of the Ministry is to make Montenegro a highly developed information society. The key objectives are to advance IT infrastructure, lower Internet costs, better coverage of 4G and 5G technologies, greater competitiveness and higher investments in this area, as well as wider use of modern technologies in the public administration.

He also noted that the legislation in the field of information society has been harmonised with that of the EU to a large extent, as evidenced by the European Commission's report on Montenegro's progress for 2015, in Chapter 10 dealing with information society and media. Minister Lazović announced that the new Information Society Development Strategy 2020 will define strategic directions of development in this area with a view to reaching EU standards set out in the Digital Agenda 2020 and the Single Digital Market Strategy. The document is divided into two chapters that have been identified as crucial in achieving the EU standards in this field, namely: infrastructure for broadband internet access, information security, human resources, e-commerce, e-education, e-health, e-inclusion, e- administration and research, innovation and development.
