Outgoing Ambassador: Germany to continue supporting Montenegro's NATO accession
Podgorica, Montenegro (21 June 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted a farewell visit by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Gudrun Elisabeth Steinacker.
The Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador Steinacker for successful cooperation during her term of office in Montenegro and expressed satisfaction with the development of overall relations with Germany, both in terms of frequent political dialogue, and support that German government provides to Montenegro's accession to NATO and the accession negotiations for membership in the EU. In this context, PM Đukanović emphasised the importance of the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans and pointed out that Germany's commitment to further progress in the region is crucial.
Ambassador Steinacker, expressing gratitude for the support and cooperation, said that Germany strongly supports Montenegro's accession to NATO, and that Berlin would continue to strengthen overall relations with Montenegro, on the basis of existing widespread cooperation. Speaking of the Berlin Process, German Ambassador particularly stressed the importance of youth exchange, which is a prerequisite for a peaceful and productive future of the region.
