PR ServicePodgorica, Montenegro (5 July 2016) – Deputy Prime Minister Petar Ivanović met today with Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende, who is on an official visit to Montenegro.

The two officials estimated that the cooperation between Montenegro and Norway in the previous period was very good and productive, both at the political and at the economic level. They also stressed the need to continue cooperation, and concluded that it should be deepened in areas that can contribute to the further development of the Montenegrin economy, such as energy, tourism, agriculture, fisheries and forestry.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Brende recalled the successful joint projects in the fields of telecommunications, oil and gas, forestry, and expressed willingness to consider all options for the continuation of economic cooperation in these and other areas that have been identified as competitive and crucial for the future development of Montenegro. Given the positive results achieved in recent years in the field of agriculture, Minister Brende expressed interest in the competitiveness of particular sectors, such as the production of wine, olive oil from olives that are more than 1,000 years old, of medicinal and aromatic plants, and honey.

DPM Ivanović assessed that the continuation of cooperation with Norway should go in the direction of deepening cooperation and opening space for the private sector through new projects. 

Norwegian Minister congratulated Montenegro on the results achieved in terms of the dynamics of the opening of negotiating chapters with the EU, particularly on the success related to the membership in NATO. He pointed out that Montenegro in the last ten years made historic progress in the field of social and economic development. 

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović thanked Mr Brende for Norwegian support in integration processes. He expressed the hope for continued support regarding foreign policy, especially in the opening of new negotiation chapters that are very important for the economic development of Montenegro.
