PM Đukanović: KfW Development Bank supports priority development areas in Montenegro

Podgorica, Montenegro (6 July 2016) -- Prime Minister Milo Đuikanović hosted earlier today a delegation of the German Development Bank (KfW), led by a member of the Management Committee Roland Siller.

The Prime Minister welcomed the existing cooperation with the KfW, adding that the bank's funds were very well used for priority development areas. He stressed the importance of the projects supported by the KfW Development Bank in energy efficiency, municipal infrastructure, transport and banking, voicing confidence that the KfW will continues to contribute to the achievement of desirable economic growth of Montenegro. Prime Minister Đukanović particularly referred to the KfW Development Bank's support for communal infrastructure, as a prerequisite for the implementation of a series of major development projects in tourism.

Roland Siller of the KfW said that he has witnessed strong development of Montenegro since the restoration of independence. He commended cooperation in the fields of energy, water supply and wastewater treatment, and pointed to the possibility of future support and the expansion of cooperation in the field of road infrastructure.

The meeting welcomed today's signing of a grant agreement from the EU – Western-Balkans Investment Framework's funds for the project of the Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor I, as the first grant the Vienna Summit 2015 approved to Montenegro. They also welcomed the opening of a wastewater treatment facility for municipalities of Kotor and Tivat, which was funded by the KfW.

PM Đukanović and the KfW representative underlined the significance of the Paris Western Balkans Summit 2016, as a continuation of the Berlin Process, in the context of further development of the Western Balkans and its full integration into the EU.
