Podgorica, Montenegro (7 July 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted today delegation of the International Monetary Fund led by the Head of the IMF Mission to Montenegro Alasdair Scott.

PM Đukanovic said that Montenegro, in the past ten years since the restoration of independence, maintained good pace of economic growth, adding that the Montenegrin economy has real development resources that are managed in a sustainable way.

"We are aware of the clear limitations in the sphere of budget deficit and public debt management, but these categories are under the watchful eye of the Government. The resources need to be valorized, and this is only possible with the development of infrastructure. In this regard, Montenegro is encouraged through the Berlin Process, which we see as an additional quality of the EU policy towards the Western Balkans," the Prime Minister noted.

Head of the IMF Mission to Montenegro expressed readiness to continue cooperation in the planning of long-term development projects in Montenegro. He assessed that developments in the external environment increase the risks for the Montenegrin economy, while the internal risks are related to fiscal and political context.
