Prime Minister Đukanović to participate in NATO Summit in Warsaw
Podgorica, Montenegro (7 July 2016) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović will participate, at the invitation of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Alliance, taking place in Warsaw on 8 – 9 July.
Montenegro participates in a NATO summit as an invitee for the first time, after having signed the Accession Protocol on 19 May in Brussels. In this capacity, it will be represented at all meetings during the two-day work.
The summit will discuss current security issues, with a focus on further strengthening the concept of defence and deterrence, and projecting stability beyond borders of NATO, cyber defence, civil preparedness, and improving concept of anti-ballistic missile defence. The summit will also address the issue of cooperation with the EU through joint and coordinated action in the Mediterranean. The allies will exchange views on future activities aimed at continuing the "Resolute Support" mission in Afghanistan, as well as further training of the Afghan security forces (ANDSF).
On the sidelines of the NATO Summit, the Prime Minister will speak at the expert forum entitled '' NATO in Defence of Peace,'' which is sponsored by the Slovak GLOBSEC and Polish Institute of International Affairs. Furthermore, he will hold a series of bilateral meetings to discuss the procedures of ratification of the Accession Protocol, as well as other issues of importance for the cooperation within the Alliance.
The Montenegrin delegation also includes Minister of Defence Milica Pejanović Đurišić.
