National Security Council holds session: Situation in Montenegro is stable; cooperation between law enforcement authorities needs to be improved
Podgorica, Montenegro (29 July 2016) – The National Security Council concluded on Wednesday, 27 July 2016, 8th session that began last week.
The officials discussed security situation in Montenegro with special emphasis on the situation in Kotor. It was estimated that the political, security and economic situation in Montenegro is stable.
The President of the Council, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović said that it is necessary to strengthen activities against organised criminal groups operating in the territory of Montenegro in order to anchor the sense of safety and legal security of the citizens of Montenegro, investors and tourists.
The Council, in this regard, concluded that it is necessary to improve the functionality and cooperation between the law enforcement authorities in order to efficiently counter the challenges of organised crime. It was concluded that, for the same reason, it is necessary to review the existing capacities and organisational structure of the Special Prosecutor's Office and the Police Directorate.
