Podgorica, Montenegro (31 August 2016) -- Deputy Prime Minister Azra Jasavić met earlier today with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Information Society and Telecommunications Vujica Lazovic to discuss opportunities for enabling assistive technologies to become more easily accessible to all persons with disabilities with a view to promoting a society of equal opportunities.

DPM Jasavić pointed out that the availability of assistive technologies guarantees better future for people with disabilities. This can be achieved through further engagement of the Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunications. In that regard, the establishment of a centre for assistive technology should be considered in order to train people with disabilities to use appropriate technologies and identify tools that meet the needs of every individual.

By using assistive technologies, people with disabilities can have a wider choice of professions and become more competitive on the labor market, which is the objective of inclusive education. The variety of assistive technology gives the opportunity for persons with disabilities to participate in the processes of education and employment. These technologies are extremely important for people with sight impairments in particular.

“Considerable resources are needed to make this idea come true, which is why we have already established cooperation with relevant international organisations," said DPM Jasavić.

Deputy Prime Minister Lazović voiced willingness to implement the ideas within existing possibilities, proposing the interested engineers from the Ministry to be trained in the centres in the region that possess this technology and continue their involvement in the processes of education of persons with disabilities.

The two deputies agreed to will work together towards achieving the objective.
