Montenegro on the “Traveller” magazine cover
Podgorica, Montenegro (20 August 2016) - The cover of the "Traveller" magazine’s August edition, owned by the low-cost airline company Easy Jet, was dedicated to Montenegro -- “the Adriatic’s last undiscovered secret”.
“This new Balkan nation, which is now on the verge of becoming the next EU member, is putting itself on the map in a big way”, states the author of the article, Mr Simon Kurs.
Montenegro has been described as a fascinating country that has various important historical sites. The article states that Montenegro has been a part of the Venetian Republic, the Napoleonic Empire, and that both the Ottomans and the Austro-Hungarians held these lands.
“Indeed, Budva’s Old Town was ruled by the Venetians for nearly 400 years, from 1420 to 1797, and it’s they who built the fortified walls, which lend it the feel of a mini Dubrovnik. But after dark, it all changes in the Old Town, those alleyways taking on the buzz of Mykonos”, Mr Kurs writes.
The article also talks about planned investments in the north of country. It says that according to World Tourism and Travel Council, Montenegro’s tourism sector is ranked as one of the fastest growing in the world a few years in a raw, in terms of the total contribution of travel and tourism to GDP, and such growth is expected to be over the next decade.
