Podgorica, Montenegro (2 September 2016) – The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson thanked Prime Minister Milo Đukanović for congratulations regarding his recent appointment to this position. Johnson's letter, among other things, reads:

"I am delighted with the positive relations between our two countries and wish to take this opportunity to reaffirm the UK's commitment to building security and prosperity across Europe and with NATO allies. Montenegro's progress towards NATO and EU accession is a clear demonstration of your commitment to this path. The UK looks forward to welcoming you as a full NATO member in the near future. We will continue to support your wider reform efforts to ensure greater prosperity for your citizens and to promote stability in the region.

Like my predecessor, I am strongly committed to UK-Montenegro relations. I look forward to working with you to strengthen these ties and to cooperate on the global issues facing both our countries today."
