PM Đukanović meets Under Secretary of State Department for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon in New York

Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Đukanović met today Under Secretary of State Department for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon.

Shannon said he was honored and pleased to meet the PM Đukanović in New York, as Montenegro is very important US partner. He congratulated the progress towards membership in NATO and stressed that therefore is extremely important to support friends like Montenegro.

The Prime Minister thanked for the enormous US support to Montenegro and the region, saying that it was crucial for Western Balkans to go through stability and integration. He expressed the satisfaction that Montenegro is leading that process. In the context of overall development during the first decade of independence, PM Đukanović said that the progress on the road to NATO is the key effect, expressing the hope that the ratification of the Protocol on Montenegro's Accession to NATO will be completed in a reasonable time. He also used the opportunity to thank the US Government for initiating the procedure in the Senate, with the hope that the process will be finished in the anticipated pace, during the election campaign in America.

PM Đukanović informed his interlocutor about the results that Montenegro is achieving in the negotiation process with the EU, as well as in the field of economic development. Likewise, he notified Thomas Shannon about the current developments to meet the October parliamentary elections. Despite all challenges, Montenegro will continue to pursue its strategic goals, while remaining a reliable partner and ally, PM said.

Under Secretary Shannon pointed out that Washington is interested in devising a long-term cooperation with Montenegro, emphasising a full readiness to continue to maintain contacts to this end between two countries at various levels.
