Ulcinj, Montenegro (24 September 2016) -- Deputy Prime Minister Azra Jasavić visited NGO "SOS Hotline for Children and Women Victims of Violence Ulcinj“ and spoke with Executive Director Hatidža Neljaj and her associates.

The most precious resource of the society are the people. Half of this resource are women who are unjustly neglected. „Montenegro as a patriarchal society must do everything to promote women's human rights, so women would not remain closed in the traditional framework,“ Jasavić said.

DPM Jasavić stated that the Government showed agility in completing the normative framework by adopting laws that promote women's human rights. „In these parliamentary elections, at all lists, each fourth place belongs to a woman, and a woman can be replaced only by a woman. This is a step forward, but we can not be satisfied by the implementation of law when it comes to women's rights. Therefore, primarily as a woman, and then as a Deputy Prime Minister, I will seek for these rights to be successfuly applied in practice,“ jasavić stressed.

"Today, women are often victims of domestic violence, and, unfortunatelly, the environment we live in often justifies the abusers and blames the victim. The institutions that need to inspect it do not adequately protect the victims of violence. The traditional rights of men should not be stronger than the law. In the 21st century, a woman can not be locked in the traditional framework, because only a strong woman can be a pillar of the family, and therefore the society,“ Jasavić stated.

"There is no happiness in a society without a happy individual. Without a happy individual, there is no happy family, and happy family is the only one that is functional, i.e. the one where the mother, as a pillar of it, is respected. A healthy family creates a healthy individual, and healthy person is the ideal of each society, what our society needs to strive to. Without a serious fight against the violence against women and children, this ideal can not be achieved, so the work of NGOs dealing with the protection of women and children need to be strenghtened, which is the obligation of the Government of Montenegro,“ Jasavić concluded.
