Head of Montenegrin Mission to EU Bojan Šarkić presents Letters of Credence to President of European Council Donald Tusk

Brussels, Belgium (27 September 2016) -- Head of Montenegrin Mission to the EU, Ambassador Bojan Šarkić, presented the Letters of Credence to the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

In the following discussion, they exchanged views on the European perspective of Montenegro and its progress in the integration process.

Ambassador Šarkić expressed special gratitude to the President Tusk for his personal support for the democratic aspirations of Montenegro, stated with the strong and friendly messages at the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the independence of Montenegro in Podgorica. In this regard, he pointed to an arduous path that Montenegro crossed, in order to meet the independence and in the period after that. Ambassador Šarkić also expressed the expectation of continued support from European partners in achieving our strategic objectives.

Understanding the current moment and the numerous challenges the European Union is facing, Ambassador Šarkić underlined the commitment of all Montenegrin institutions to diligently fulfill its obligations of the European agenda.

The President Tusk found that this is a significant moment for Montenegro on both integration tracks. Acknowledging the progress that Montenegro has made in the current period, he expressed the hope that the grand finale of the European road is close. In this context, he emphasized that Montenegro is the best prepared country among the candidates in a very demanding integration process.

The president of the European Council also said that Montenegro can count on his personal support and that the club of its friends in Brussels is very wide.
