Response on daily Dan's article: PM is not President of Council for Cooperation with Emigrants

Published on: Sep 29, 2016 8:00 PM Author: PR Service

Podgorica, Montenegro (29 September 2016) – On Wednesday, 28 September 2016, the Dan daily published on page 2 an article titled "It is unclear how the members are elected", where many false claims are stated.

In order to properly inform the public, we announce:

1. The claim published in the aforementioned article titled "It is unclear how the members are elected" that Prime Minister Milo Đukanović is "elected as the President of the Council" is false, and therefore the claim that it is "unclear by which criteria" the Prime Minister is "elected" to that position is also false.

There is not a single justification for this claim. The Prime Minister is not the President of the Council for Cooperation with Emigrants, yet Nenad Popović, a specialist in Orthopedics from Germany, originally from Kotor, is elected to this position.

2. The statement from the title of the article that is "not clear how the members (of the Council) are elected" is false.

The members of the Council were elected in accordance with Articles 13-24 of the Law on Cooperation with Emigrants ("Off. Gazette of Montenegro", no. 47 of 18 August 2015), which are fully respected to the letter of the Law in the process of which the public is timely informed for which there is evidence on the portal of the Government and sub-portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European integration.
