Podgorica Montenegro (30 September 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanovic sent on behalf of the Government of Montenegro and in his own name a letter expressing deepest condolences to the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu on the occasion of the death of former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres.

"Shimon Peres will be remembered as one of the most important founders and builders of the State of Israel, a statesman who marked an epoch, and left an indelible mark in the history of his country and the great people of Israel. During his long and honourable life, he fought with the same enthusiasm for the security and development of the State of Israel, and for the peace in the Middle East, tirelessly promoting the idea of multi-ethnicity, tolerance and understanding, for which he deserved the Nobel Prize. The moral principles by which he guided himself remain as a milestone in the political history of the world," PM's letter reads.

The Prime Minister emphasised that he was honoured for having a chance to meet President Peres, and to speak with him about the development and directions of cooperation between Montenegro and Israel.

"We will preserve the memory of the personality of President Peres with reverence, as well as the memory of his credits not only for Israel and the region but for the whole world. His vision and humanism remain as a lasting testament to the new generations in the struggle to build a better and more justly world," PM Đukanović concludes.
