PM Đukanović meets with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Brian Yee

Podgorica, Montenegro (3 October 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met today with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Hoyt Brian Yee.

The Prime Minister Đukanović expressed his satisfaction with the continuity of political contacts, including a recent meeting with the US ambassadors from the countries of the region, as well as the gratitude to Washington for its continuous attention and support to Montenegro, which is essential for the stability of the European and Euro-Atlantic path of our country and the region. This is particularly reflected in the area of defense, rule of law and the fight against corruption and organised crime, which contributes to the balance of results that was critical to the success of Montenegro in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration. At the same time, he expressed the expectation that the economic cooperation in the coming period will be further strengthened through the permanent improvement of the business environment and the attraction of the prominent American investors who will bring not only capital, but also the necessary experience, knowledge and management skills. He also stressed that Montenegro is a sincere and reliable partner to the United States, and that the USA can count on Montenegro after parliamentary elections on 16 October as well.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Hoyt Brian Yee, thanked the Prime Minister Đukanović for the meeting and he congratulated on the implementation of the Agreement on creating conditions for free and fair elections, which proved to be a good move for the state and the region, as he said. Regardless of the elections outcome, it is a good message to the Montenegrin society, Hoyt Yee said. He also welcomed the progress in the rule of law, and encouraged the Government to continue to support the Prosecutor's Office and relevant institutions, without which there would be no achieved success. In particular, he emphasized further development of the partnership relations between Montenegro and the USA. In this context, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State pointed out that the Government of Montenegro has earned respect in the region, stressing the importance of providing support to our neighbors in implementing their integration reform and development agenda.

They also exchanged their views on the current situation in Montenegro in the forthcoming parliamentary elections on 16 October.
