PM Đukanović meets with Chairman of EU Council for Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajčak
Podgorica, Montenegro (12 October 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met today with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčak, who as the Chairman of the EU Council for Foreign Affairs was a special guest at the regular ambassadors' annual consultations, which take place today and tomorrow in Podgorica.
The Prime Minister thanked Minister Lajčak for his willingness to present latest developments in the EU to the heads of Montenegro's diplomatic and consular missions and to convey personal experiences and beliefs on the role of diplomacy and the functioning of diplomatic missions at this time.
Minister Lajčak said that Montenegro was the fifth state he visited in this capacity since Slovakia took over the presidency and expressed satisfaction with the progress of Montenegro in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He confirmed the readiness of Slovakia and Brussels to continue to fully support Montenegro in fulfilling its obligations under European and NATO agenda, which will result in the opening of new chapters in the negotiations with the EU by the end of the year.
The two officials agreed that it is extremely important that the regular parliamentary elections in Montenegro are held in stable political conditions, in which the government of electoral trust has the special role. They expressed the hope that the results of these elections will confirm further progress of Montenegro on its European path.
