Podgorica, Montenegro (16 October 2016) — The Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunications informs the public that numerous hacking attacks on web portals in Montenegro have been reported since 8am this morning.

Among others, the hacks were made on the news portal Cafe del Montenegro – CDM (www.cdm.me), Antena M Radio (www.antenam.net), and the Democratic Party of Socialists (www.sigurnimkorakom.me).

The website of the NGO Centre for Democratic Transition — CDT (www.cdtmn.org) and all its subdomains have been under constant hacking attacks since Thursday, 13 October 2016. These attacks include DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, as well as innumerable attempts of accessing the administration part of the website and system databases.

The national CIRT team is doing everything within its remits in coordination with state authorities to prevent the attacks and ensure that web portals in Montenegro can remain operational and provide timely information to citizens on the election day.

The CIRT team has also been informed that the infrastructure of the Montenegrin Telekom has been attacked, but notes that the attacks have been successfully repelled.

A DDOS attack is an attempt at making the web server inaccessible to its users, disabling the network, computer, or another part of the infrastructure in such a way as to render them dysfunctional.
