Police arrest group of 20 persons suspected of planning attacks in Montenegro

Podgorica, Montenegro (16 October 2016) – Head of Montenegro’s Police Slavko Stojanović confirmed that a group of 20 persons was apprehended on the night between Saturday and Sunday. Mr Stojanović’s statement for the national broadcaster RTCG will be presented in its entirety:

"Police have arrested, upon the request of the Special Public Prosecutor and, in cooperation with the National Security Agency according to the collected intelligence information and insights, 20 Serbian nationals, while one person, who is also a citizen of Serbia, is on the run.

These persons were suspected of forming criminal organisations and terrorism on the Montenegrin territory. As suspected, they had entered Montenegro and had had intention to take over the automatic weapons first, and carry out tonight attacks against institutions of the system, the police and representatives of the state authorities, not excluding the possibility of attacks on high-ranking state officials.

Concerning these incidents, the Police Authority submitted the information intended the public to the Prosecutor’s Office".
