Podgorica, Montenegro (19 October 2016) -- Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunication informs the public that on the night between 17 and 18 October 2016, and during the previous day, web portal of the Government of Montenegro (www.gov.me) was exposed to DDoS attacks. Due to the high-quality protection system, the Government's web portal not for a moment was out of order.

Monitoring systems registered that the attack came from a large number of IP addresses from multiple countries.

This is a continuation of the DDoS campaign of attacks that have been carried out over the past few days on numerous portals in Montenegro. We remind that during and after the parliamentary elections in Montenegro, web portals of the Cafe del Montenegro (www.cdm.me), Radio "Antena M" (www.antenam.net), Centre for Democratic Transition (www.cdtmn.org), and the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro (www.sigurnimkorakom.me), were also attacked in the same manner.

National CIRT team has taken all measures within its jurisdiction in coordination with the state authorities, private sector and international partners in order to prevent the attacks, make the Montenegrin portals function smoothly and inform the public in a timely manner.

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is an attempt to make certain services unavailable to users whom they are intended, disable the network, server or other part of the infrastructure in a way that they cannot function by sending a large number of requests.
