Podgorica, Montenegro (20 October 2016) — The Group of Friends of Montenegro in the European Parliament sent today a letter to Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović regarding the parliamentary elections held in Montenegro on 16 October 2016.

“We congratulate the citizens and the authorities of Montenegro for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections on 16 October. We are pleased to note that according to the preliminary findings by the report of the OSCE/ODIHR the Parliamentary elections were conducted largely in accordance with international election standards,” the letter reads.

The Group of Friends of Montenegro in the European Parliament noted that it “looks forward to the smooth formation of the new government, focused on the reform process and consolidation of the rule of law. Montenegro now needs to look to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

The letter concludes by saying that “Montenegro, as a country that is the leader in European integrations, is expected to continue with good results and especially with further EU-related reforms, for which Montenegro has the maximum support of the European parliament.”
