DPM Marković meets with EU's Lange: Electoral process can be assessed positively

PR ServicePodgorica, Montenegro (25 October 2016) – Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted today the Head of the Department for Montenegro in the European Commission's Directorate General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Dirk Lange.

The two officials talked about achieved results in the field of rule of law, and discussed the capacity and competence of institutions for the implementation of the electoral process in the light of recently held parliamentary elections.

"The main task of these bodies was to create conditions for free and democratic elections and my assessment is that there is necessary capacity in these institutions," DPM Marković said, noting progress in the work of institutions for the implementation of the electoral process.

Lange agreed that the implementation of electoral procedure was more effective than before, and that reports of a large number of observers entitle us to positively assess the electoral process.

"I am convinced that the future government will pursue defined strategic objectives in the field of European integration of Montenegro, and we will make the necessary efforts to vigorously proceed achieving results in the field of rule of law – which means stability, freedom of citizens and a prerequisite for economic progress of the country," the Deputy Prime Minister concluded, stating that it is expected that new government will be formed soon, and that there is a stable political majority.

Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Aivo Orav also attended the meeting.
