Prime Minister's Adviser Vlahović in Brussels: Montenegro strongly supports Berlin Process

Brussels, Belguim (27 October 2016) -- Advisor to the Prime Minister Vojin Vlahović participated in Brussels in a meeting of delegates of the Western Balkan prime ministers, chaired by Director General for EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Christian Danielsson. The meeting was attended by Head of the Permanent Mission of Montenegro to the EU Bojan Šarkić. The meeting discussed the Connectivity Agenda with the Berlin Process and the progress made by the Western Balkan countries in implementing the so-called "soft" reform measures in the field of energy and transport following this summer's summit of prime ministers of the Western Balkan countries in Paris, and ahead of the summit to be held in Italy next year.

Director General Danielsson said that the Connectivity Agenda is a high priority of the European Commission, which will continue to strongly support the countries of the region in achieving the set objectives. It is very important, said Danielsson, that all six countries share the same goals in the process of further establishing mutual infrastructural connectivity, or connectivity with the EU.

Advisor Vlahović confirmed Montenegro's strong support for the Berlin Process, as a high-quality new segment of the European Union's policy towards the Western Balkans.

"Connectivity Agenda provides significant opportunities for the countries of the region to advance their capital infrastructure projects in the fields of energy and transport," said Vlahović.

He recalled the results of the last year's summit in Vienna, where Montenegro received substantial grants for Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor between Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as projects of reconstruction and modernisation of the Bar – Vrbnica railway. He also announced the intention of Montenegro to select, through the work of the National investment Commission, the projects that will run for co-financing in the future, with special emphasis on quality preparation of project documentation.
