PM Đukanović hosts NATO Deputy Secretary General Gottemoeller

Podgorica, Montenegro (3 November 2016) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met today with NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller, who is paying official visit to Montenegro.

The Prime Minister congratulated Gottemoeller on her appointment as NATO Deputy Secretary General and expressed appreciation for the Alliance's initiative that this year's international field exercise "Crna Gora 2016" is held in Montenegro. The Prime Minister said that this is another act of recognition for the achieved progress and confirmation of attention that NATO and member states pay to Montenegro as a future member. He pointed out that Montenegro is stably and dynamically moving through European and Euro-Atlantic reform processes and adopting fundamental values of the Euro-Atlantic community, which was confirmed at the recent parliamentary elections which preserved European chance of the Western Balkans.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Gottemoeller thanked for the reception and congratulated on the progress made in the past ten years since the restoration of independence. She expressed her appreciation for Montenegro's contribution to global stability through participation in NATO missions. At the same time, she pointed out that the decision on the organisation of the exercise in Montenegro has proved fully justified, since Montenegro demonstrated full readiness and capacity to take responsibility for the realisation of complex activities of the Alliance and partners.

The two officials exchanged views on the current situation in the region and globally. Gottemoeller said that she appreciates the path through which PM Đukanović led Montenegro and its citizens, and expressed appreciation for the successful leadership role he had in the previous period. Finally, she wished success to the new government, expecting that the dynamic cooperation continues in the future to the mutual satisfaction.
