Montenegro and Serbia are dedicated to cooperation in EU accession process

The Joint Committee between Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia in the context of EU accession held today its second meeting in Belgrade.

The meeting was chaired by the State Secretary for European Integration and Chief Negotiator Ambassador Aleksandar Andrija Pejović and the Acting Director of European Integration Office of the Republic of Serbia Ksenija Milenković. Members of the negotiating structures of the two countries responsible for Chapter 14 Transport policy, 20 Enterprise and industrial policy, 21 Trans-European networks, 23 Judiciary and fundamental rights, 24 Justice, freedom and security and 27 Environment participated in the meeting.

Opening the meeting, Ambassador Pejović said that regular meetings of negotiating teams represent a valuable contribution to the promotion of regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations between the two countries, and that they are extremely useful for the exchange of experiences and expectations regarding the upcoming, more demanding stages of accession to the European Union.

Within four working sessions, members of the Serbian and Montenegrin negotiating groups presented the current situation and exchanged experiences regarding current negotiation process, with emphasis on the achieved results and further commitments and plans.

Both delegations underlined the importance of regional cooperation as a driver of regional development and, in this context, stressed the need for deeper cooperation between the working groups for certain negotiation chapters which, in the context of the accession negotiations, have the greatest significance for the two countries, such as Chapters 23, 24 and 27.
