Podgorica, Montenegro (5 December 2016) -- Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel extended congratulations to Montenegro's newly elected Prime Minister Duško Marković.

Montenegro has made key achievements on its path towards Euro-Atlantic community of values, Chancellor Merkel stresses in her congratulatory message, adding that the opening of numerous chapters in the EU accession process clearly testifies to that fact. Furthermore, NATO invitation represents a success story of the previous government, she noted, encouraging Montenegro to resolutely continue its course.

Chancellor Merkel says there are great challenges ahead of Mr Marković's Cabinet, particularly referring to strengthening the rule of law and fighting corruption and organised crime, at the same time pointing out the importance of the constructive dialogue with the opposition.

In achieving this task, Germany will be happy to be a partner of Montenegro, says Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in her congratulation message to Duško Marković on the occasion of assuming the office of prime minister.
