FM Darmanović is taking part in meeting of NATO member states foreign ministers in Brussels
Podgorica, Montenegro (7 December 2016) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srdjan Darmanović is partcipating in the meeting of NATO Member States Foreign Ministers, taking place in Brussels on 6-7 December, which is the first participation of a Montenegrin foreign minister in a NATO foreign ministers meeting after the signing of the Accession Protocol on 19 May 2016.
On the first day of the meeting, the foreign ministers discussed the relations between NATO and the EU, and adopted a declaration on the implementation of the Joint Declaration on cooperation between the two organisations signed at the Summit in Warsaw. At a special session dedicated to projecting stability beyond the borders of NATO, it was stressed that NATO is committed to stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans, through the strengthening of cooperation with the countries of the region. In that context, the participants welcomed the fact that Montenegro is going to become a NATO member soon and called for a speedy completion of the ratification process of the Accession Protocol.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Darmanović met with the foreign ministers of Denmark, the Netherlands Bert Koenders, Italy and Portugal, Anders Samuelsen, Bert Koenders, Paolo Gentiloni and Augusto Santos Silva. The ministers conveyed the assurance that their country will ratify the accession protocol as quickly as possible.
Trilateral meeting with ministers of Albania and Croatia, Ditmir Bushati and Davor Ivo Stier, agreed to further deepen cooperation in areas of common interest, strength political contacts and implement projects that boost cooperation in the Adriatic Sea.
During the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lubomir Zaoralek, both sides expressed satisfaction with the recent ratification of the Protocol by the Czech Parliament and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the process of EU and NATO integration.
