Minister Nurković met with representatives of the United States Coast Guard

Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Osman Nurković met today with representatives of the United States Coast Guard.

At the beginning of the conversation, Minister Nurković stated that, although he has recently appointed as the head of the Ministry, he got acquainted with the current cooperation, contribution and support which the US administration provided so far to the maritime authorities of Montenegro in improving ship and port facility security measures in our country.

"Bearing in mind the capacity, resources and expertise of the United States Coast Guard, we appreciate the up-to-date support and we are ready to continue cooperation aimed at improving this area" - said Nurković. The Minister also stressed that the "three basic prerequisites for improving the security of ports and maritime transport are as follows: quality legal solutions, human resources and capacities, and technical resources".

The Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs in cooperation with the United States Coast Guard will organize the third in a series of trainings in Bar. Focus will be placed on improving the knowledge and skills of professional personnel that is directly involved with the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).

Both sides agreed that current legislation lays a solid foundation which will, with the further development of bylaws, lead to continuous improvements of this area.
