Podgorica, Montenegro (16 December 2016) -- Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) will, in partnership with the Government, suggest the best solutions in order to make the country sustainable in terms of its identity, but also how to provide security and a better quality of life for citizens. It was agreed at today's meeting between the Prime Minister Duško Marković and President of the CANU Dragan Vukčević.

Reminding of the key policy taken in the previous period, Prime Minister Marković said that the internal divisions and lack of social cohesion represent serious limit for even more dynamic development of the country. He stressed that the Government expects the CANU to suggest how to overcome the current problems plaguing the Montenegrin society, through searching compromise on a minimum consensus on key national objectives.

PM Marković said that the CANU enjoys the full support of the Government in this area and it was agreed to strengthen cooperation with relevant ministries on specific projects. PM Marković and CANU President Vukčević spoke about the Government's willingness to support the reconstruction of the CANU building in exchange for a new facility being built in the centre of Podgorica, which was intended for the new location of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts. This way, the Government would alleviate the problem of lack of space for its services and the CANU would preserve its distinctive location.

CANU President Dragan Vukčević said he is encouraged by what the Prime Minister and the Government have done for the Academy in the short term and particularly positively assessed the Government's commitment to strengthening institutions and knowledge. These are the prerequisites for faster progress of the Montenegrin society in all fields, today's meeting between the Prime Minister and leaders of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts emphasised.
