Istanbul, Turkey (20 December 2016) -- Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Osman Nurković attended today the opening ceremony of the Eurasia Tunnel, at the invitation of the Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communications of Republic of Turkey Ahmet Arslan. Solemn ceremony was attended also by the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as well as the Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, the former Minister of Transport of Turkey.

The Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs has already achieved a significant communication with Turkish counterparts, resulting in the signing of the Agreement on international road transport of passengers and cargo, as well as the bilateral Agreement on air traffic between the two Governments.

In order to develop and strengthen friendly relations, especially in economic cooperation and trade, with the aim to contribute to the progress of economic cooperation between the two countries and increase the volume of mutual trade exchange, Montenegro and Republic of Turkey signed the Agreement on free trade in 2008.

Apart from the attending the opening ceremony of this impressive infrastructure project, the visit of the Montenegrin delegation to Turkey aims to maintain bilateral meetings which are important for the department of transport and maritime affairs.

Thus was held a bilateral meeting with the owners of the company Global Ports Holding, which has become a majority owner of the „Container Terminal and General Cargo“ JSC Bar after the sale of shares of it. Bearing in mind the importance that this former part of the Port of Bar has on the economy of our county, holding this meeting was extremely important, as it was an opportunity for the promotion of business cooperation and the analysis of operating results of the company in Montenegro. The meeting was also an opportunity for management of Global Ports to introduce the Minister to the company's operations and to summarise the results of the investment program that, by their analysis, goes on in accordance with the obligations assumed by the Agreement.
