Zagreb: Support to Montenegro in advancing towards EU membership

Zagreb, Croatia (20 December 2016) -- Minister of European Affairs Aleksandar Andrija Pejović stays in Zagreb on 20 and 21 December, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Davor Ivo Stier.

In addition to the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Stier, Minister Pejović met today with the President of the European Affairs Committee of the Croatian Parliament Domagoj Ivan Milošević. The meetings were an opportunity to present the results that Montenegro has achieved in the negotiation process, as well as the exchange of opinions regarding the further obligations of the EU accession.

Minister Pejović thanked the technical and expert assistance given by the colleagues from Croatia to the Montenegrin negotiating team in almost all chapters of the Acquis Communautaire, thus contributing to the development and further strengthening of the capacities for successful negotiations.

Deputy Prime Minister Stier congratulated on the last week's opening of two more chapters and on the overall results that Montenegro has achieved in the process of accession to the EU. He conveyed that Montenegro can count on full support of Croatia for the continued implementation of reforms in the further progress towards membership.

During the meeting with the President of the European Affairs Committee of the Croatian Parliament Domagoj Ivan Milošević there was a discussion on further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, especially in the context of the obligations of the accession process and intensifying the European path of Montenegro. The interlocutors emphasised the full commitment to the preservation of good neighborly relations. The President of the Committee Milošević pointed out that Montenegro has the full support of Croatia for further reform processes and good dynamic progression towards membership, as its traditional friend and partner.
