National Security Council holds its first session in new composition
Podgorica, Montenegro (30 December 2016) – First session of the National Security Council in a new composition, chaired by Chairman Duško Marković, was held earlier today. Council discussed the current security situation and make conclusions in order to improve the overall security in the time to come.
Council members discussed and the case of attempted terrorism on the eve of parliamentary elections on 16 October. The Council concluded that the Special Public Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with the police and the National Security Agency, had reacted in a professionally and timely manner, and that such a reaction is the mechanism for long-term preservation of the safety and security of the State and citizens. In that regard, the Council fully supported the Prosecutor's Office in providing efficient and transparent justice epilogue in the case concerned.
Today’s session discussed the issue of the deadly criminal gangs’ clashes and the Council concluded that competent authorities should take timely and professional actions towards combating organised crime, including personnel changes in the security sector. The Council unanimously emphasised the necessity for full cooperation and coordination, and unified and efficient operation of all security system stakeholders.
Council reviewed the security situation in the context of the upcoming New Year's and religious holidays, and concluded that the security situation in Montenegro is stable, tasking the competent authorities to take effective measures and activities within its jurisdiction in order to maintain the required level of safety and security.
Council proposed to the Defence and Security Council to appoint Minister of the Interior Melvudin Nuhodžić as Coordinator of the Bureau for operational coordination and harmonisation of the intelligence security sector.
