Podgorca, Montenegro (12 January 2017) -- Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin met earlier today with Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Ambassador Aivo Orav.

Ambassador Orav said that Montenegro has made significant progress in the EU integration process. Rule of law, which includes the efficient fight against organised crime and corruption, is one of the major challenges along the way, he stressed, pointing out the areas where further efforts are needed.

Deputy Prime Minister Pažin underlined the importance of activities carried out in Montenegro in improving the normative legal framework and the need of high-quality implementation of these laws, especially in the field of confiscation of property acquired through criminal activity. Good cooperation between judicial institutions and law enforcement institutions contributes to making high-quality judicial decisions and the implementation of laws in this area.

Membership in the European Union and NATO are the most important foreign policy priorities of Montenegro. In that regard, it is important that the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee yesterday unanimously approved the ratification of the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO, said DPM Pažin.

Two officials exchanged views on the current political situation in Montenegro. DPM Pažin stressed the need to stabilise the political situation through the return and participation of the opposition in the Parliament, as the most important democratic forum in the country.
