Press release from 8th Cabinet session

Podgorca, Montenegro (12 January 2017) – Montenegrin Cabinet held earlier today its 8th session chaired by Prime Minister Duško Marković.

Speaking about the drafting of the Government’s Plan of Action for 2017, the Prime Minister called on ministers to take direct responsibility for the designing obligations in line with the strategic priorities – continuation of the process of accession into NATO and the EU, accelerated implementation of key development projects and the adoption of measures which will identify weak points in the area of structural reforms and raise the country’s competitiveness.

Cabinet approved the Action plan for implementation of the Strategy to improve safety in road traffic for 2017 defining the activities that will contribute to the development of functional and high-quality transport system, with the continuous reduction in the number of killed and seriously injured in road traffic. Bearing in mind the fact that the quality of life of all citizens depends on the level of traffic safety, the Cabinet concluded that further engagement of all entities dealing with these matters is necessary in order to achieve the highest degree of safety of participants in traffic. Relevant departments were tasked, in accordance with the initiatives outlined in today's discussion, to review the possibility of innovation of the envisaged measures and stronger involvement of civil society in their implementation.

Today’s session also passed reports on the procedure for granting a concession on the basis of an energy license for the construction of a small hydro power plant "Vinicka" on the part of the watercourse Vinicka River, as well as a small hydro power plants "Ljevak" on the part of the Rijeka (Ljevak) watercourse. The Government adopted a decision on granting concessions and accepted the concession contracts - with the company "Rudi Energy" Berane for the construction of the hydro power plant "Vinicka," and with the company "Simes inženjering" Podgorica for the construction of the Ljevak hydro power plant. It was noted that Montenegro, including the requirements that are in the process, will achieve the necessary level of electricity production from renewable sources, which is one of the obligations in the process of European integration. In particular, it was emphasised that a high- quality evaluation of the natural resources has been achieved and that substantial investments in durable goods which remain in the property of the state have been generated.
