Defence and Security Council: Lt. Gen. Ljubiša Jokić – Chief of Army of Montenegro
Podgorica, Montenegro (13 January 2017) -- The Defence and Security Council appointed today Lt. Gen. Ljubiša Jokić to the post of Chief of the Army of Montenegro, at the proposal of the Minister of Defence.
The Council appointed the former Chief, Admiral Dragan Samardžić, to the post of Defence Attaché at the OSCE Mission in Vienna, and his deputy Brigadier General Rajko Pešić, to the post of Military Representative of Montenegro in NATO and EU in Brussels.
The handover of Chief duties will be made on 20 January 2017.
The Council adopted a Decision on participation of members of the Army of Montenegro in international exercises abroad in 2017. The Decision provides the participation in 22 military exercises, which will significantly enhance the ability of the Army of Montenegro to perform diverse and very complex tasks. The Council paid tribute to members of the Army of Montenegro for participation in military exercises abroad during the 2016 and highly rated their contribution in strengthening of the reputation of Montenegro and the Army of Montenegro, which was highly rated by the partners as well.
On the proposal of the National Security Council, the Council appointed Mevludin Nuhodžić, Minister of Interior, to the post of Coordinator of the Bureau for operational cooperation and harmonisation of activities of bodies that form the intelligence and security sector in Montenegro.
The Council considered and adopted the Information on possible modalities to protect the airspace of Montenegro when it becomes a full NATO member and authorised the Minister of Defence to coordinate with partners all necessary actions to establish the protection of the airspace of Montenegro.
