Darmanović, Lajčák: Mutual relations of Slovakia and Montenegro are characterised by constructive partnership with no opet issues

PR ServiceOn the second day of his official visit to the Slovak Republic, Minister of foreign affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Miroslav Lajčák.

Minister Lajčák expressed satisfaction that Montenegro has maintained a regional leader position in European integration. He also expressed satisfaction with the continued progress of Montenegro in the negotiation process in the period of Slovak presidency, when there were opened two negotiating chapters.

He also commented on the upcoming full membership of Montenegro in NATO, after completing the procedure of ratification of the Protocol on Montenegro's accession to NATO in the national parliaments of the Member States, which will make a significant contribution to the regional stability, as he assessed.

Minister Darmanović congratulated his Slovak colleague for successful presidency of the Council of the EU, and reiterated appreciation for the strong, long-standing and continued support for the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Montenegro.

The officials agreed that the mutual relations of Slovakia and Montenegro are characterised by a constructive partnership with no open issues, that a frequent political dialogue at ministerial level has been achieved during 2016, and that there is a potential for improving cooperation in areas such as economy, tourism, energy, information technology, water management.

They also exchanged their opinions on developments on the regional and international level.

Minister of foreign affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović met with the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Slovak Republic, headed by the Committee Chairman František Šebej. During the talks, they emphasised the importance of strengthening the parliamentary dialogue and cooperation as a very important segment of the interstate relations and announced the continuation of partnership through the sharing of experiences between the two countries in the integration processes. The proactive role of the Slovak Parliament in finalising the process of Montenegro's membership in NATO was especially highlighted.
