PM Marković: Relations between Montenegro and Serbia are best in last twenty years; PM Vučić: Montenegro in NATO is no threat to Serbia
Belgrade,
Serbia (03 February 2017) -- After the official talks, the Prime Ministers of
Serbia and Montenegro, Duško Marković
and Aleksandar Vučić, announced
today at a joint press conference in the Palace of Serbia that relations between
the two countries are good and friendly, and there are opportunities for their
improvement.
„At
this point bilateral relations between Serbia and Montenegro are the best not
only in the past ten years since the restoration of independence, but in the
last twenty years. I do not want to hide my appreciation for the efforts made
by the Prime Minister of Serbia to come to this situation. This is not only a
quality that we will keep but is the basis that we will upgrade and do
everything to make Serbia and Montenegro even closer and develop in a
qualitative manner their potentials to the benefit of citizens of both Serbia
and Montenegro“, the Prime Minister of Montenegro said.
Motorway: Connecting is common
interest
The Prime
Ministers particularly emphasised the cooperation in the field of
infrastructure, primarily connecting the two countries via motorway.
When
it comes to transport and infrastructure, Mr Vučić said that construction of Beograd-Podgorica-Bar
motorway is one of the essential activities that will be implemented in the
coming period. As he noted, first 120 km to Čačak will be finished until the
spring of next year.
Speaking about this topic, Mr Marković said that our country will build the section to Andrijevica immediately after the construction of the Smokovac-Uvač-Mateševo section is finished.
The
Prime Ministers pointed out the common interests for cooperation in the field
of reconstruction of the railroad, in tourism and in energy sector.
Political issues: Montenegro is
ready to contribute to Belgrade, Priština dialogue
Speaking
about the political issues, Mr Vučić said that both countries
have a common foreign policy goal – membership in the EU, and that Serbia
doesn't consider the intention of Montenegro to join NATO as a threat.
Mr Marković thanked Serbia and the Prime Minister Vučić for the quality cooperation in the field of justice, saying it was important to establish the rule of law and legal security in general. Regarding the situation in the Western Balkans, the Prime Ministers of the two countries agreed that we all must do everything in order to provide the Region with peace and stability as a prerequisite for development.
