PM Marković meets President Nikolić: Montenegro willing to assist in overcoming challenges in region

Belgrade, Serbia (3 February 2017) -- Tensions in the Western Balkans may endanger stability and security of countries and the region, Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković noted at the meetings with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić and Speaker of the Parliament Maja Gojković.
It was concluded that a common response to those challenges need to be found through the intensification of cooperation and genuine dialogue. Prime Minister Marković expressed readiness of the Government of Montenegro to assist in overcoming the challenges that burden the overall relations in the region
Emphasising that relations between the two countries are excellent, President Nikolić voiced willingness to cooperate with the Montenegrin authorities when it comes to topics relevant for the Serbs in Montenegro.
"Government of Montenegro is committed to preserving the rights of all ethnic communities in line with the highest international standards," said Prime Minister Marković.
Both sides agreed that the relations between the two state and nations are better than they are perceived and represented by a part of the political stakeholders.
It was agreed that all the potential problems need to be discussed and resolved at the institutional level.
President Nikolić voiced understanding and respect for the decisions of Montenegro in connection with Euro-Atlantic integration. He pledged support for further improvement of economic and commercial cooperation through greater valorisation of natural resources.
Prime Minister Marković and Speaker of the Serbian Government Gojković praised bilateral, particularly parliamentary cooperation, between the two countries. Ms Gojković underscored that there is need to boost ties in all other fields, especially in economy.
