Belgrade, Serbia (3 February 2017) -- European and Euro-Atlantic integration will continue to be at the top of our agenda. Montenegro has been on that path since the restoration of independence in 2006 and we been through very demanding stages over the past decade, Prime Minister Duško Marković underlined at the meeting with non-resident ambassadors to Montenegro.

As to NATO integration, PM Marković said that the Accession Protocol has already been ratified by 23 member states, hopeful that this process will be completed soon in the United States and Germany, and used the opportunity to ask the diplomatic representatives of Spain, Canada and the Netherlands to convey to their governments Montenegro's strong interest that ratification of the Accession Protocol of Montenegro takes place in their countries.

“In this way, conditions would be created to verify within our Parliament the commitment to join the Alliance and that Montenegro appears as the 29th member of NATO already at the next Summit,” the Prime Minister added.

When it comes to EU accession, Prime Minister Marković said that Montenegro “do not consider membership negotiations with the EU as the race for chapters”, but that “our primary goal is the adoption of standards and alignment of the Montenegrin society with the rules of developed Europe.”

He also underscored commitment to regional cooperation, where the country achieve concrete forms of cooperation with the Western Balkan countries, particularly referring to the paramount importance of the Berlin Process, which greatly assists the countries of Western Balkans in the implementation of key infrastructure and energy projects that will contribute to the individual and overall development of the region.

Prime Minister of Montenegro thanked the ambassadors, not just the Member States of the EU and NATO, but also other friends from around the world, for the support that their countries and they personally provide to Montenegro in achieving its foreign policy goals.

“I take this opportunity to emphasise the strong commitment of the 41st Government of Montenegro to further improve cooperation with thirty-one diplomatic missions in Belgrade in charge of cooperation with Montenegro on a non-residential basis,” the Prime Minister pointed out.

He concluded by saying that the Government is committed to creating a favourable investment environment:

“I invite you to inform the investors from your countries about the benefits of the investment environment in Montenegro; that you convey my message that they are welcome and that we guarantee the safety and protection of their businesses in accordance with the highest standards of the rule of law.”
