Podgorica, Montenegro (8 February 2017) – Prime Minister Duško Marković met with European External Action Service Director for Western Europe, Western Balkans and Turkey Angelina Eichhorst.

The meeting discussed the EU accession process and overall situation in the region, particularly emphasising the importance of the Western Balkans' stability in ensuring prosperity.

„Having in mind the growing tensions across the Balkans, it is important to establish a friendly atmosphere and understanding between the neighbouring countries“, PM Marković explained, adding that Montenegro is recognised as a long-standing factor of stability in the region.

The two officials also discussed Montenegro's path towards the EU, noting that the country has made a significant progress in opening 26 negotiation chapters as well as its willingness to continue achieving good results within the new stage – closing of the negotiation chapters.

PM Marković highlighted the significance of the Euro-Atlantic accession process for strengthening democracy and maturing of the entire society, adding that Montenegro's membership in NATO, which is expected this spring, clearly represents the victory of the western values and democracy, as well as Europe itself.
