Podgorica, Montenegro (13 February 2017) – Recent parliamentary elections in Montenegro were fair and democratic, and their results are indisputable, Prime Minister Duško Marković and Head of the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, Ambassador Maryse Daviet, concluded at today's meeting.
Noting that relations between Montenegro and the OSCE are excellent, the two officials agreed that ties should be further developed through projects related to the rule of law and strengthening of institutions. This is the best way, PM Marković stressed, to deal with all the challenges, including issues of peace and stability.
Ambassador Maryse Daviet said that the OSCE will continue the good cooperation and partnership with Montenegro and that will support the fulfilment of the Copenhagen criteria.
It was noted that special attention should be paid to the media and freedom of expression. In that context, the Prime Minister stressed the Government's commitment to contributing to improving the situation in this field through concrete actions, including reducing the financial pressure on media operation. However, as it was assessed, the media need to make further work towards boosting professionalism and self-regulation.
The Prime Minister informed the Head of the OSCE Mission about the efforts of the Government aimed at ensuring economic growth and development, reducing public debt and deficit, but in a way that does not jeopardise the chances for the valuation of resources. Attention is focused on attracting new investments and structural reform in order to to enhance the business environment and administrative efficiency, he concluded.
