Podgorica, Montenegro (13 February 2017) -- European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) wants to support Montenegro in the future, through the projects to increase private sector competitiveness, investments in infrastructure as well as in the area of green economy, according to the EBRD representatives, led by the member of the EBRD Board of Directors for Montenegro Heinz Kaufmann. They announced this today, at the meeting with the Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro, Duško Marković.

These three pillars of the future EBRD Strategy of cooperation with Montenegro, which should be adopted soon, are complementary with the objectives of the Government of Montenegro, Prime Minister Marković said.

The Prime Minister reminded that the development and social growth are priorities in the work of the Government and the intention is to achieve the economic growth of 3.2 percent this year. He pointed out that borrowing is planned for development and capital projects, not for the current consumption. In this context, he particularly stressed projects in the field of tourism, energy, road infrastructure and agriculture.

Special emphasis was given to the possibility of agriculture and tourism linking, where Montenegro has enormous potential, in the opinion of Prime Minister Marković.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation and great support from the EBRD to the development of the country, through the 508 million € invested through 54 projects.

Apart from the economic and structural reforms, relevant to the creation of better living conditions, the importance of EU and NATO integrations was particularly highlighted, as they are significant for the preservation of peace and stability not only in Montenegro, but in the region and Europe.
